I believe that our imagination has the power to transform our lives.
The human imagination is a powerful tool; ask any artist. It allows us to create vivid mental or physical images and scenarios that can transport us to different worlds and experiences. Imagination plays a crucial role in our emotional, social, and cognitive development from the earliest stages of our development. But beyond the playful and creative aspects of imagination, it can also be used as a form of protection when we find ourselves in situations of severe distress …. click here to read more.

‘The Mansions’ – a heritage-listed row of six terrace houses was built in 1889 as an investment property for the parliamentarians of the day; Premier Boyd Morehead, Treasurer William Pattinson, and the member for Clermont John Stevenson. It is one of Brisbane’s more unique old buildings and like most, has a fascinating past.
Part of that past was, of course, its residents. Two of which were Dr. Lilian Violet Cooper and her lifelong partner Mary Josephine Bedford. Dr. Cooper became the first registered female doctor in Queensland and the second female doctor in Australia after opening her rooms at The Mansions in 1891.

Many interesting stories emerged while researching ‘Newspaper House’. The occupation of Brisbane by America’s General MacArthur is one of them, and because he and his troops were in residence at the same time and place my story is set, it made sense to include him in my book, if only in a small way. His presence also led me to discover The Battle of Brisbane. There’s nothing like stumbling across a good war story, and this one was local. It’s a war story with a difference, and I think it’s well worth a read.
My own father’s war story was ‘stumbled across’ by a family member whilst researching our family tree. Ronald Albert McConnell, had flown in the RAAF during World War II, which is when The Battle of Brisbane took place.

The Manor Apartments (Aka Newspaper House) is one of Brisbane’s more beautiful heritage buildings and was the inspiration for my new novel, Newspaper House. These grand old buildings, so rich in history and architectural beauty, are sadly becoming a scarce commodity. My hope is that they can avoid the unwanted attention of developers and be valued and preserved for the treasures that they are.
Just pick any heritage building and delve into its past and you’ll probably find it holds some fascinating stories, and although my story is purely fictional, it does touch on some very real issues.

Couldn’t put it down! Mystery with Heart and History
I just finished Newspaper House and absolutely loved it. The mystery pulled me in right away—Neve is such a strong, determined character, and I was hooked by her investigation into the old murder. The mix of journalism, history, and a ghostly twist was so clever and original. It’s fast-paced, full of suspense, and really makes you think about truth and justice. If you enjoy crime stories with real depth, definitely give this one a read!
